It is an honour for me to address you today for the first time as Special Representative on Gender Issues. I am excited by the prospect of working together with you all, men and women, to achieve gender equality here within the OSCE PA. I am at once proud and humbled that our President, Petros Efthimyou, has placed his trust in me; but filling the shoes of Tone Tinsgaard, my predecessor, will be a daunting task. Her extraordinary passion and dedication to the goal of gender equality has set a high benchmark indeed. Fortunately, she left a strong base upon which I can build.

VIENNA, 25 February 2011—In her first address to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly as the Special Representative on Gender Issues, Dr. Hedy Fry (Canada) called for the election of more women to the Assembly’s leadership.
